How to Replace the Brakes on a Porsche 944 S2

This article will show you to replace the brakes of your Porsche 944 S2 vehicle. First watch the video below. The video has a German soundtrack, but English subtitles are added to YouTube. If you don't see them by default, just press the "CC" button below the video in the controls.

The following gives you a step by step description, which will help guide you when doing the job.

Front Axis

1. Loosen the wheel nuts

2. Jack the front axis

3. Remove the wheel

4. Remove the holder of the warning contacts

5. Open the expanding spring

6. Remove the warning contacts with small pliers from the pads

7. Press the pistons a little back

8. Separate the damping plates from the pads

9. Reset the pistons

10. Remove the pads

If you replace only the pads, continue with step 20

11. Loosen the caliper bolts

12. Remove the holder of the brake hose

13. Remove the caliper and hang it with a wire to the strut

14. Loosen the small bolts of the rotor

15. Remove the rotor

16. Clean everything and coat the hub with high temperature ceramic grease

17. Clean the new rotors with brake cleaner

18. Center the rotor with the wheel nuts and fasten the 2 small bolts

19. Mount the caliper and fasten the bolts with 85 Nm

20. Remove the damping plates

21. Clean the caliper

22. Coat the spring plates with ceramic grease

23. Mount the new damping plates and remove the protective foil

24. Insert the new pads

25. Put the brake hose back to its holder

26. Plug in the new waning contacts

27. Put back the spanner spring

28. Mount the holder of the warning contacts

29. Mount the wheel

30. Remove the jacks

31. Fasten the wheel nuts with 130 Nm

Rear Axis

32. Loosen the wheel nuts

33. Jack the rear axis

34. Remove the wheel

35. Remove the holder of the warning contacts

36. Open the expanding spring

37. Remove the warning contacts with small pliers from the pads

38. Press the pistons a little back

39. Separate the damping plates from the pads

40. Remove the pads

41. Reset the pistons completely

If you replace only the pads, continue with step 66

42. Loosen the caliper bolts

43. Loosen the brake line as much as possible

44. Dismount the holder of the warning cable connector

45. Dismount the caliper and hang it up

46. Loosen the adjuster screw of the parking brake completely

      For this, turn downwards on the left side and upwards on the right side

47. Loosen the small bolts on the rotor

48. Remove the rotor

49. Clean the hub and coat it with high temperature ceramic grease

If you don't replace the braking shoes, continue with step 59

50. Remove springs

51. Remove slack control

52. Remove brake shoes

53. Assemble spreader leaver

54. Mount long lower return spring on shoes

55. Move in shoes and insert in spreader lever

56. Connect upper return spring

57. Pull brake shoes apart and insert slack control

58. Center parking brake and mount springs

59. Coat slack control, shaft on spreader lever and sliding surfaces of brake shoes with grease

60. Check everything again

61. Clean the caliper

62. Clean the new rotor with brake cleaner and mount it on the hub

63. Center the rotor with the wheel nuts and fasten the countersunk bolts

64. Mount the caliper and fasten the bolts with 85 Nm

65. Fix the brake line

66. Mount the damping plates and remove the protective foil

67. Insert the new brake pads

68. Plug in the new waning contacts

69. Mount back the holder of the warning contacts connector

70. Put back the spanner spring

71. Mount the holder of the warning contacts to the spanner spring

Adjusting the Parking Brake

72. On the left side turn the adjusting screw upwards until the end

      On the right side turn it downwards till the end

73. Release the adjusting screws now up to the point that the rotors start to be free

74. Release the adjusting screws by one notch more

75. Lift the brake lever now on the second position. The brakes should be still free

76. Lift the lever on third position. The brake should be locked

77. Lift the lever on fourth position. The brakes must lock the rotor completely

78. If this is not the case, correct it with the adjusting screw

79. Mount the wheel

80. Remove the jacks

81. Fasten the wheel nuts with 130 Nm
